Judge Elbert Parr Tuttle (1897-1996) was a member of the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit from 1954, and served as Chief Judge of that court from 1960 until his 70th birthday in 1967. Frank Minis Johnson, Jr. (1918-1999), federal judge, received a recess appointment from President Dwight D. Eisenhower on October 22, 1955 to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama. He was nominated on January 12, 1956; confirmed by the Senate on January 31, 1956; and received his commission on February 1, 1956. He served as chief judge, 1966 to 1979.
